Over 50 teams from Port Lincoln and schools around the district participated in the first ever 3on3 in Port Lincoln and Event Producer Mayrah Sonter says the Port Lincoln Vibe 3on3® was well received by the community.

“All of the role models had a great time with the kids and the young people loved them being there,” Mayrah said.

“Port Adelaide Australian Rules footballer, Daniel Motlop was great with the kids in the health expo. They also loved getting down with dancers Medika Thorpe and Darren Crompton who hosted the Move it Mobstyle® dance workshops. Comedian Kevin Kropinyeri also kept them entertained and rapper Lady Lash was in fine form.”

Uncle Howard Richards welcomed everyone to country, while deputy mayor, Neville Starky opened the event.

Mayrah said the Vibe 3on3® Basketball and Hip Hop Challenge had it all - fierce competition, an energetic committee and volunteers, as well as outstanding community support for the event.

The action-packed event featured a 3on3 basketball tournament, rapping and break dancing lessons, art workshops, a dance competition and a health expo, all accompanied by a backing track of the latest RnB, hip hop and Indigenous music.

Mayrah said there was a wonderful health expo on the day made up of local service providers including: the Family Violence Legal Service Aboriginal Corporation, West Coast Youth and Community Support Inc, Port Lincoln Police, Port Lincoln Aboriginal Health Service, Port Lincoln Health Service, and the Port Lincoln Hospital.

She thanked the local organising committee for all their hard work.

“Without their help, the day would not be possible,” she said.

“Thanks also to the local sponsors - Port Lincoln Aboriginal Community Council, West Coast Youth Services, Marlin Hotel, Port Lincoln Times, Woolworths, Coles and Bakers Delight. We'll be back next year!”

The Vibe 3on3® would also not be possible without its sponsor the Department of Health and Ageing, through the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, and Vibe Australia. Supporters include the Koori Mail, Deadly Sounds and Deadly Vibe.
